Advanced Battery Technology - Fuji to launch new hybrid carsBy 2006, Fuji Heavy Industries will launch new types of hybrid cars which use a gasoline engine for power generation only and are driven entirely by electric motor, according to Asia Pulse. The new technology's applications will include minicars but also could be combined with Fuji Heavy's renowned four-wheel-drive systems. The company's hybrid technology will use electricity generated by the gasoline engine to fuel the motor to run the vehicle. Fuji plans to use the research resources of General Motors, which has a major stake in the Japanese automaker, to develop fuel cell vehicles on a group-wide basis. To prepare for such efforts, it first wants to develop technology to be used in the hybrid car which can then also be applied to a fuel cell vehicle. Copyright Seven Mountains Scientific, Inc.
